Job DescriptionThe Naval Nuclear Laboratory - Future Reactor Concepts group is seeking a highly-motivated, self-driven experienced engineer for naval reactor core design. The group is focused on defining the technology development required for a next generation attack submarine. A candidate is being sought to bring either reactor core neutronics or thermal/hydraulics design experience to bear in significantly improving the performance of naval reactors. This project is currently in the pre-conceptual design phase which will be followed by a formal core design effort requiring reactor design model development and qualification. This group requires frequent and effective communication with other core design, materials performance, core manufacturing, and reactor plant development groups in support of the next generation attack submarine. This position provides opportunities to influence technology development for performance gains and cost reductions. Interested applicants must excel at working in a multi-site group and be willing to actively improve efficiency in this environment. The successful candidate will be expected to identify opportunities and then to apply their expertise and decisively act to fully evaluate those opportunities. Job RequirementsAdvanced:BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; orMS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; orCurrently or previously NPE qualified or CTE/ACRS and one year of EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; orWatch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and one year as SRESenior:BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years of relevant experience; orMS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; orCurrently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified or EDO and two years as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; orThree years as SRE plus Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only), or SRE qualified and six years of experienceJob Preferred SkillsDegree(s) in nuclear and/or mechanical engineering Experience with core neutronics or core thermal hydraulic analysis codes Aspirations to develop a broad understanding of how multiple disciplines impact core design Desire to promote innovation in core design and analysis methodologies Experience working in a collaborative engineering environment Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is Committed to Workforce Diversity.
