The ACLU seeks a full-time position of Accounting Manager in the Finance Department of the ACLU s National office in New York, NY.

Responsible for safeguarding the financial resources of the organization, the Finance team manages the financial activities of the National ACLU. From paying vendors to forecasting budgets, and everything in-between, we take pride in providing the resources and the platform for informed financial decision-making.

Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing, training and developing AP professionals. They will manage all related AP processes, assist with audits and filings pertaining to the functional area, manage affiliate payments, and serve as a point of contact in communications on related matters.

  • Lead by example in managing a team of accounting professionals; supporting and training team as a subject matter expert
  • Manage account reconciliations relevant to functional area
  • Assist with relevant audits, preparing and/or reviewing audit schedules and materials
  • Prepare or assist with preparation of required tax filings and government reporting (local, state, federal)
  • Create and/or maintain systems and structures to facilitate timely, accurate and proper processing of payments according to departmental and organizational policies
  • Review payments processed to ensure compliance with organizational policies, GAAP, state and federal regulations
  • Manage monthly, quarterly and annual closing entries
  • Manage monthly affiliate payment process, including serving as a point of contact in communications with affiliates, vendors, employees and state and federal agencies regarding payments
  • Prepare expense-related reporting for internal stakeholders and Finance leadership
  • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities from a variety of sources
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • At least 10+ years of relevant work experience with at least 2 years leading a team preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software; aptitude for learning new financial technology preferred
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office products required, with advanced skills in Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, if statements) preferred
  • Experience with web and digital platforms preferred

The annual salary for this position is $103,968 (Level G). This salary is reflective of a position based in New York, NY. This salary will be subject to a locality adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting. Note that most of the salaries listed on our job postings reflect New York, NY salaries, where our National offices are headquartered.
